The Promise That Keeps Us Going
Category : Blogpost
We need to remember the promise. The Great Commission ends with Jesus saying, And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. He does not send us out alone. He goes with us. Every time you forgive when you want to retaliate, he is there. Every time you serve, when you want to be served, he is there. Every time you turn the other cheek, he is there. He walked this path before you, and he walks it with you.
And the Spirit produces the fruit, not you. Your job is to abide. To stay connected. To keep showing up. The Spirit does the growth. Paul says, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6). The completion is on God’s timeline, not yours. But it will happen.
So don’t give up. Don’t be discouraged by your failures. Don’t compare your pace to someone else’s. The Christian life is not a sprint; it’s a marathon. And the goal is not to start well but to finish well. By God’s grace, with the support of a community, and through the daily disciplines of abiding, you can sustain long-term commitment to the ethical teachings of Jesus. The root can grow deep. The fruit will come. Keep going.
