Making Space for God

Psalm 46:10

Psalm 46:10 invites us to something countercultural: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Stillness does not come naturally in a world that prizes productivity and noise. We rush through our days, our minds cluttered with concerns, rarely pausing long enough to let God’s presence settle into our bones.

Maggie learned this lesson slowly. When she first began making space for God in the mornings, she devoured Scripture in big gulps, trying to rehydrate a spirit that had gone without nourishment far too long. But over time, she discovered something essential: the Word was not meant to be consumed hurriedly. She began to take smaller portions, savoring each verse prayerfully, allowing the mysteries and profound truths to unfold.

Now every reading feels fresh, strong, and powerful. Scripture edifies, instructs, strengthens, comforts, and guides her. Her daily devotional has become less about completing a task and more about removing obstacles to knowing and loving God. With an undistracted mind, she was able to let her spiritual gaze rest on God.

She became intentional about the task, carving out time each day, closing the laptop, silencing the phone, and choosing stillness.

It may feel uncomfortable at first. But that quiet space is where transformation happens.
