Jesus as a Model of Strategic Resistance

Jesus’ ministry was an active disruption of the “architectural” oppression of the Roman Empire and the legalistic gatekeeping of his time. He frequently bypassed traditional gatekeepers, moving into marginalized spaces to provide the healing and dignity the religious and political elite actively denied. By framing Black communities’ actions as intentional efforts to dismantle structural inequities, we echo Jesus’ methods of establishing alternative, protected communities, the Kingdom of God, that operated outside the constraints of established hierarchies.

Faith as Transformative Praxis

Jesus integrated the empirical realities of human suffering, in other words, the “data” of hunger, sickness, and poverty, with a radical theological vision. Jesus did not merely comfort the oppressed; he empowered them to act. His justice was a praxis, the visible, practical application of belief.

Agape as the Ultimate Disruptor

Agape was the cornerstone of Jesus’ justice ministry. Jesus practiced a sacrificial, proactive love that prevented the systems of control from becoming absolute. Jesus’ love defended the human heart as a site of divine resistance. His love restored the humanity and dignity that society tried to take away.

Today, as we reframe our historical and contemporary struggles through this Christological lens, we elevate the daily work of community building into a direct continuation of Jesus’ mission to liberate those bound by systemic, structural, and spiritual chains.
