Praying in the Meantime (Isaiah 65:17)
Category : Blogpost
Isaiah 65:17 – “For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.”
OK, somebody, I’m standing on God’s Word. I know it’s coming in God’s way and in God’s time. But I have some questions: What should I do in the meantime? How should I fill the liminal spaces, the interstitial regions, the gaps between the now and then?
My ancestors had an answer to those questions. I can still hear them saying: just keep on living, baby, and keep on praying! I learned a whole lot by watching my foremothers when they thought nobody else was looking. I watched, I listened, and I learned what people of faith do when they stand on God’s promises. My Big Mamma learned to endure by praying in the meantime.
When you’re grieving, there is power in praying,
Psalm 30:11 – “You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.”
When you’re angry because people aren’t treating you right, there’s power in praying,
Psalm 35:1 – “Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me!”
When you feel a little scared because the world seems to be caving in, there is power in remembering what God said,
Psalm 91:14-15 “Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble; I will rescue them and honor them.”
And after you’ve experienced God’s healing, power, and reassurance, you might just want to start praising:
Psalm 34:1-3 – “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”
There is Power in Prayer
I’m here to tell you, there is power in prayer, especially when you’re praying in the meantime. If God is in the process of creating new heavens and a new earth, you better believe the word of God because God does not lie. God’s promises are true. As a matter of fact, they’re already done, they just haven’t manifested yet! Wait on it. Wait on it. And in the meantime, keep praying!
May God bless you richly!
