Wholehearted Love (Deuteronomy 6:5)

And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
Today’s scripture calls for a total, consuming love for God, one that involves your emotions (heart), your core identity (soul), and your daily actions and resources (strength). It’s presented as the first and greatest commandment, the foundation for a resilient and purposeful life. Here’s what that looks like in the day-to-day.
Love with all your heart. That means bring your real self to God first. Start by placing everything in your heart, your desires, hurts, and joys, right in God’s hands. Don’t hold your worries alone. God can carry them.
Love with all your soul. Your soul is your core, your “you-ness.” In a world with so much noise telling you who to be, anchoring your soul in God means you know whose you are. You are inherently valuable, chosen, and loved. That truth is the bedrock. When you feel doubted or diminished, speak that truth to yourself.
Love with all your strength. This is the active part. Your strength, including your mental energy, your time, and your voice, is a gift. Use it in ways that honor that source. It’s the strength to set a boundary, to walk away from what drains you, and to build what nourishes you. It’s worshipping through your work, your art, and your care for your community. Your strength, when connected to God, becomes sustainable rather than exhausting.
The Power Source. The love I’m describing isn’t passive. It’s the power source for everything else. It fuels your love for your people, your fight for justice, and the grace you show yourself. Start here. Let everything you do flow from this complete, anchoring love.
