The Mirror in the Fellowship Hall (James 2:1–9)

Category : Blogpost

You know the sting of prejudice, but what happens when those biases take residence in your own heart?

James 2:1–9 describes favoring the well-dressed over the poor, calling it sin.

Favoritism isn’t just societal. It infiltrates your fellowship.

Ask yourself: Who do you subtly deem “less than”? Based on complexion, education, or zip code? Do you value the advanced degree over hard-won survival wisdom?

Work against this with ruthless honesty. Pause when uncharitable judgment rises. Challenge it. Seek out the person you’d instinctively avoid.

Intentionally diversify your circle by class, experience, and perspective.

Let your faith community dismantle earthly distinctions at the door.
