Just Let It Go

1 Peter 5:6-7

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Worry has a way of distorting everything. It clouds your vision, colors your relationships, and makes small problems feel insurmountable. In our confusion, we wrack our brains trying to find answers, to regain control, to put things back in proper perspective. But the harder we grip our anxieties, the more they seem to multiply.

Peter offers a different approach: let them go. Not by denial, but by transfer. “Cast all your anxiety on him,” he writes. The image is vivid: a physical act of throwing something heavy onto someone else. You were never meant to carry the weight alone. God is strong enough to hold your worries, and God cares enough to receive them.

But letting go requires humility. It means admitting you cannot fix everything. It means surrendering your need to understand every detail before you release the burden. Peter pairs this command with a call to humble yourself under God’s mighty hand. When you acknowledge that God is in control, you are free to stop pretending you are.

So how do you actually let it go? Start with quiet reflection. Pinpoint the source of your concern as best you can. Name it honestly before God. Then pray about it, not a frantic plea, but a deliberate handover. Say, “Lord, I give this to You because I cannot carry it anymore.” Then, trust that God has received it.

You may still feel the weight for a moment. That is normal. But each time worry returns, remind yourself: you already gave it away. It is no longer yours to hold. Let it go again and again, until release becomes your habit. God cares for you. That is enough.
