The Final Rebalancing of All Things

Eschatology is the conviction that grace will ultimately prevail over all systems of sin and death. Hopkins (1999) argued that Black eschatology is “the belief that God will ultimately defeat the forces of evil and establish a realm of justice and peace” (Hopkins, 1999, p. 102), and that this belief “empowers black people to struggle against oppression in the present” (Hopkins, 1999, p. 103). This empowerment represents the full manifestation of a rebalancing that has been ongoing throughout history.

The resurrection of Jesus is the prototype of this eschatological rebalancing. In the resurrection, the system of death that claimed the righteous sufferer was not merely contradicted but rebalanced: what seemed to be the final variable (death) was revealed as not final after all.

The Grace Interaction that exceeded all predictions in the resurrection will finally exceed all predictions in the new creation. This new creation is not a departure from reality but the consummation of reality’s deepest truth: that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts. Video about The Doctrine of Eschatology.
