Marks of Discipleship:

At Rivertree Christian Chapel, we aspire to embody the characteristics of disciples based on the Bible. Consider some of the qualities of discipleship listed below. The list is not meant to be exhaustive but exemplary of what disciples should believe and do.

  • Disciples accept Christ’s call to radical discipleship. (Matthew 9:9)
  • Disciples become vulnerable and enter the ministry of making disciples. (Matthew 16:24-25)
  • Disciples engage with God’s mission to the least, the last, and the lost. (Luke 4:18-19)
  • Disciples experience life in Jesus Christ. (John 10:10)
  • Disciples acknowledge God as the source of their work (John 15:5)
  • Disciples experience the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit in their life. (Acts 1:8)
  • Disciples witness to others to lead them to Jesus Christ. (Acts 20:21)
  • Disciples love. (1 Corinthians 14:1)
  • Disciples express freedom as loving God and loving neighbor. (Galatians 5:1)
  • Disciples seek sound teaching under the guidance of faithful leaders. (2 Timothy 2:2)
  • Disciples know themselves as distinctive, peculiar people bearing the inner mark of character and the outer mark of compassion. (1 Peter 2:9)
  • Disciples remain faithful to God in the midst of persecution and suffering. (Revelation 22:6-7)
  • Disciples use their gifts in ministry to others. (Romans 12:4-6)
  • Disciples commit their life entirely to God to serve as God wills. (1 Corinthians 11:23-25)
