About Prayer

As we have seen, prayer is a form of communication with God. When we talk to each other, we have a better sense of who we are in relation to the other. If this talk does not occur, misunderstanding results and signals get crossed. The same is true of our communication with God. The more we talk to God, the more sensitive is our understanding of God. The better we understand God, the more we are likely to trust. And if we can trust, we can learn to “wait and be still.” Through prayer, God makes us whole and gives us peace. God will serve as an unwavering force that replenishes our depleted souls over and over again in times of trouble. All we have to do is ask for help.

What does prayer reveal about our beliefs in God?

  • Prayer presupposes a belief in God.
  • It expresses faith that God cares for us.
  • It assumes that God is in control of all things.
