Home-Going Prayer

Focus Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died.

Eternal God, creator of everything that is good and perfect, the giver of love, author of compassion, we approach your throne today with heavy hearts. Death has thrown us off balance for a time. We ask that you be with us in our grief, comfort us through our human emotions. We pray that you will walk with us, watch over us, and keep your hands on us as we recover from the loss of our dearly beloved. Help us, O God, to deal with our sadness. Adjust our hearts to fill the empty space. In our lonely times, help us figure out how to live without our loved one. Help us to release our anger get over our depression. Help us find comfort in our memories and realize that life goes on around us. Help us to overcome our regrets. We acknowledge Your Sovereignty, O God. Help us to remember that you are from everlasting to everlasting. Help us to realize that you have an eternal plan for each of us. Help us to suppress our sorrows and celebrate this life that is so very precious. Thank you for allowing the path of our loved one to intersect with ours on this side of eternity. Help us to know in our spirit that you are in control. We thank you for eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Guide us toward a place of peace and wholeness. In all things, we give you glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
